In closing, please be absolutely clear that we consider the death penalty barbaric and unnecessary. We unequivocally oppose its presence in a just society.

Probably they want to challenge the penalty rather than the peacefulness of nitrogen death. I wonder that people who conflate their political preference and science can make scientifically accurate conclusions.

I've seen hundreds of papers saying that the trigger to breathe is a build up of co2 and very few, less than 10, saying otherwise. I strongly recommend anyone interested in this article do your homework and research this subject for yourself. Maybe our physiology has changed in the last 20 years lol.
