Being sad. Getting help. Getting attention.

The truth really is though. Laying in your room alone. Smelling like a cow because you can't get your energy up to even take a shower. Grieving people. Wanting to die all the time. Hoping it would just end soon.

It definitely is romanticized but some people use that against ppl with mental illnesses to say "you're just wallowing in self-pity and exaggerating the severity of your experiences" when in reality they have no idea what it's really like.

Romanticizing mental illnesses invalidates the suffering that people are going through. The truth is that mental illnesses can be debilitating and those who have not suffered themselves will never be able to comprehend what it is like.
