Has anyone tried making N from the recipe on PPH? Seems to be something wrong with it if they are using condensers and pressure in their own making articles but not describing this use in their recipe?

One immediate problem I saw was that it never tells you when to add the contents of the 2nd container to the ethanol/sodium.

To clarify what I think NextBusLeaving is referring to, pages 369-387 of the March 2019 PPEH discuss a one-time project from 2005(!) where a group of elderly people in Australia made their own powdered Nembutal at a remote location, presumably under Nitschke's supervision.

Nitschke describes the whole process but doesn't provide detailed step-by-step instructions regarding how to do it, where to obtain the needed chemicals and lab equipment, how to test for purity afterward and so forth. So this information really has no practical value for us here on SS.

Also there are links to demonstration videos but they're all nonfunctional in the PPEH as it's available here on SS.

I think it is in that gray area with providing information but stopping at the point of telling you where to buy precursors and exactly what to do. If you really want to make your own buy some chemistry textbooks to get the basics on how to change chemicals into something else. There's a lot of methods to learn. And if you wanted to do it properly, including how to test final product for purity, then you're gonna need some lab-grade equipment. And as for which precursors you will need, just start looking around the internet. Everything can be found somewhere. But don't expect it to be as easy to make as some cookies. Going about it this way will take some actual work put into it.

I found the recipe for pentobarbital some time ago, so it's out there.

Making it yourself seems next impossible though.

It's probably easier to just buy it from A or choose another method if you can't.

NBL, by saying "everything" is available on Amazon/Ebay do you mean both all the chemicals and lab equipment, just to make sure I understand you correctly?

Even if that's the case, do you know the exact step-by-step procedure for making Nembutal at home?

Heating the pot containing ethanol to 170°C would make all the ethanol boil away. So possibly the mixing of the two contents should occur before the heating? Idk.
The one ingredient I don't already have in order to attempt this is the "1-methyl butyl-ethyl malonic ester".

I think that is diethyl malonate. You might be able to order it online but it can be synthesized by dissolving sodium metal in ethanol.

I think ethanol + sodium metal produces sodium ethoxide. In fact, part of the recipe (in the webpage) is mixing ethanol and sodium metal (but due to the proportions most of the ethanol will remain unreacted).

purchases of precursor drug chemicals and professional lab equipment are monitored. Amazon, ebay and other shops forward this to authorities. Have fun amazon.
Would rather try alibaba or darknet. But with alibaba there is customs (destination country China)

I've seen somewhere online about making N yourself as well. However, its a complicated process, and unless you're some chemistry or science lab expert and really know what you're doing, I don't think its worth the effort and risk. Its almost like (for example) saying you want to CTB with SN, cocaine, fentanyl, but since you can't come across it, you try to make your own instead. Won't be easy and quite risky
