Suicide prevention has been an insidious form of control enacted by authoritarians throughout the course of history, a prime example being religion. The rich and powerful require slaves, prisoners, scapegoats and leverage to effectively carry out their plan of endless production and to ultimately remain powerful, in a circular motion. To those who hold socioeconomic power, a human being is a vital resource, and to maintain a viable supply, suicide is a loss that must be reduced, however, you cannot effectively outlaw it or monetize it, so what is the next choice? To demonize it, and to render it an unthinkable act that which is only carried out by the insane. Dissenters are labelled as "mentally ill", and thus, seen as social vampires. This is reflected in the language used surrounding people who either commit to the act, or ideate - "You're being selfish", "what about your family / friends? You'll just pass your pain onto them.", "It is not the world that's shitty, it's you. You're just depressed", among other bullshit rhetoric, all spouted by brainwashed spreaders of capitalist & religious propaganda. As a result, the suicidal can never be viewed as rational, and therefore, are not deemed capable of exercising their own personal freedom & bodily autonomy, this leads to people, even randomers, going out of their way to stop you from escaping, getting you arrested, locked up, institutionalized and beaten into submission. Very real external factors leading to one's rejection of society and the world at large will be dismissed as "crazy", and responsibility will be relegated to the individual.

If you despise and do not want to partake in the current system that has been forced upon you since birth, are you "just depressed"? Or has the system fucked you in every fillable hole?

Beautifully written. The narrative that suicidal ideation comes inherently from some sort of delusion or disconnection from reality is a clearly an attempt to invalidate suicide as a rational, personal choice, along with the cultural beliefs that suggest that life has some infinite intrinsic value. "You don't enjoy life? That's all you, you're just depressed and therefore you can't think for yourself."

Unfortunately, the tactic works, since society seems to buy into these. And those who want to feel like some sort of dime-store white knight will gladly prevent suicides by force, violating others' bodily autonomy.

The right way to prevent suicide is to address every issues that are distressing individuals. I understand every suicide is sad and we feel like stopping them from happening, but people are taking the easy way that is paternalistic and causes further harm. Let's call it "Suicide Hinderance" instead of "Suicide Prevention"

I just see it as causing so much more harm and suffering, I'd always prefer to not exist than suffer in this horrific anti-suicide world where the suffering and torture of human existence is seen as to force and prolong no matter what.

I see no illness in not wanting to be burdened with this deeply undesirable existence that just causes suffering all for the sake of it and problems there were never a need for with no limit as to how much one can be tortured. For me existence is always the problem and I always suffer so much from being enslaved in this existence just waiting to die anyway, there's so much horrific extreme cruelty in how humans have made suicide into a crime with so many wanting to make others suffer for as long as possible tortured in futile existences until they die in agony from old age, existence will always be an abomination to me.

fix the problems in the word

theirs always a reason for someone to think about suicide look in to why and fix the core problem if you want people to not ctb

It's funny how for all of the efforts that supposedly go towards "suicide prevention", the rates for attempts and deaths have only gone up instead of down.

You want to actually address suicide? Make it so that you don't have to spend your entire life working at a job(s) you hate. Make it so that corporations aren't abetting genocides and destroying ecosystems for the sake of profit. Make it so that governments actually serve its people instead of enslaving them. Make it so there are systems in place for people to actually live, instead of only barely surviving. Then, and only then, can we meaningfully address suicide.

"suicide prevention" roughly translated from the language of cruelty means "prolonged suffering" I believe

"Suicide Prevention" isn't a thing. There is no way to prevent someone who really wants to CTB from ending it all.

Unless you're willing to keep someone locked up under close watch forever, imprisonment and round-the-clock surveillance will only serve to postpone suicide.

Do you truly want to ctb? You're still here, after all. I'm not asking this in bad faith, it does seem like you've been stopped from doing what you want to do. I made it a point that prevention need not be physical.

I mostly agree in theory, though there are two issues here:

1. Those in power do not want to lose it under any circumstances and the systems we live under now are fundamentally incompatible with global happiness and prosperity. Happy & content people most certainly live at the expense of those who suffer.

2. There will always be a desire for suicide. Not everyone can be satisfied by life, no matter how good and comfortable you make it, unfortunately.

I don't mean to be rude, although you've gotten on my nerves.

You joined almost a year ago and yet are still here, too! You've been here much longer than I was. Perhaps I should be asking you this question.
