2020 there was a groundbreaking highest court judgement in favor of assisted suicide in Germany. But practically the effects were rather minor. There was a campaign of high politicians and the media to block new changes despite the fact the highest court ruling clearly suggested something else. I felt pretty tricked and I was pretty disappointed.

My linked threads sum it up.

Yeah, I'm in Germany and our politicians suck. They won't allow assisted suicide for the next few decades, so be aware that you'll have to help yourself.

It seems like one step forward in politics always leads to two steps back 😡

The bill has already passed, this is not the same as a court ruling.

Isn't it only for people with a lethal illness thus far? I think the same groups that blocked in my country could block for reasonsable laws in your country. But Germany is a special case due to our history and relationship with euthanisia.

The same groups? I thought the bill just failed to pass in the Bundestag?

I meant similar groups not literally the same groups. Conservatives, religious groups and in general pro lifers in media and politics.

I think there Was a large media campaign where many actors were involved before the voting of the bill.
