I want to pass out as fast as possible and avoid the headache that accompanies SN. I also plan to fast for 24 hours. Will taking melatonin and ibuprofen with SN be a good or bad idea? Do you think it will affect the SN?

Just a side question to OP's question:
Are both melatonin and ibuprofen available as OTC medications?
And if they are OTC without prescription, how much should be taken for any nausea/headache that may accompany after taking SN?

In Australia, ibuprofen is available as Nurofen, which is available in supermarkets, and melatonin supplements can be found in some tablets to help you sleep, available in a pharmacy

They're both OTC in the US, which means they both don't do much worth a damn. So, sure, take them, but don't expect them to kill much pain or put you unconcious. Melatonin, specifically, just makes it easier to go to sleep (allegedly, it hasn't helped me worth a damn), but doesn't function like a CNS depressant or anesthetic that actually makes you go unconscious.

I've taken 5 melatonin once and it doesn't help me sleep at all. To be quite honest, no matter how much I take, even if it's just one, I end up waking up in the middle of the night crazy dehydrated. Wouldn't recommend, personally.

Melatonin is hormone produced by the body that is not lethal. That won't work

There is an OTC sleep aid called Valerian root.

"Valerian has a mechanism of action similar to benzodiazepines; however, instead of binding to the gamma subunit like a benzodiazepine, it appears to bind to the beta subunit on the GABA-A receptor instead."

On the topic of sleep meds, would Nyquil/Zzzquil be effective, without interfering with SN and the other things you need to take with it?

I've tried valerian before but it didn't affect me at all :(

I see. I've had small doses of melatonin in the past and it has helped me. I'm thinking of trying it again.

I've never had those. I have zzzquil in my house so I'll try some.

I would just like to add that the above post is correct, but it works differently for different people. Some people may find it easier to sleep after, some people can take 5 and it won't afffect them at all. Bottom line, it will NOT knock you unconcious in an instant.

Neither valerian nor melatonin will sedate or put you to sleep in the way that benzos do. Both would be pretty much useless in the SN protocol in my opinion.

Ibuprofen is listed as one of the recommended painkillers for the SN protocol, so I can't see it being problematic.

Melatonin does so comparatively little in general that I can't see it interacting negatively with SN.

In Australia, ibuprofen is available as Nurofen, which is available in supermarkets, and melatonin supplements can be found in some tablets to help you sleep, available in a pharmacy

FYI, the levels of actual melatonin in OTC supplements in Australia (and UK/NZ) is negligible. You need to either get it prescribed by a doctor, or it is freely OTC in the US and you can order it from online resellers to Australia without (I believe) any customs restrictions. But double-check this for yourself first.
