If a whirlpool existed at the same spot in the stream the last time the water was this high, is that "pre-existence" for this whirlpool?

Do you mean- pre-existence is a kind of state? Even, a knowable state? Like, something is waiting in the wings ready to emerge into this world? It already knows that it's a tree or an antelope, a person or a whirlpool. It's just waiting for its cue?

I guess everything has a pre-existence and, it only comes into being if certain criteria are met. Is pre-existence a thing though? Can something pre-exist if we don't know of its existence to begin with? There must still be many species we haven't cataloged.

I wonder if there are pre-existent events that don't come to fruition too. Like- the conditions for life or a weather event or natural event were there but, it didn't materialise. I wonder if that's possible. It's certainly possible with humans, in the form of antinatilism and abortion.
