Prague powder extraction

In the UK you can just buy prague powder on Amazon next day delivery.

This is 94% sodium chloride and 6% sodium nitrite (E250). from what I gather you can do a cold water extraction, similar to extracting codeine from co-codamol (iykyk) which is insanely simple.

Essentially dissolving the mixture in water, until no more sodium chloride can dissolve and remains solid. While sodium nitrite continues to dissolve.

At which point the sodium chloride solidifies first and sinks to the bottom, then filtering the liquid with a coffee filter, which is now full of more SN and repeat. You could drink that straight or evaporate off the water.

Solubility in Water at 20°C

Sodium Chloride (NaCl): 360 g/L

Sodium Nitrite (NaNO_2): 820 g/L

Obviously getting it perfect as is difficult
but even increasing the concentration to like 50% sodium nitrite is enough to CTB relatively comfortably.

It shocks me this is just on Amazon prime. Am I missing something here?


EDIT: I don't think there is even a need for changing the water temperature.

It is used in food, so it is normal to be sold, there is like 5 gr of SN in that mix, but i have hard time to believe u can extract it easily, i doubt u can get more than 2-3 gr of 50% kind

So, 80g at 6.25% = 5g SN per bag. If you are thinking only 50% recovery, you would need at least 10 bags to get to the recommended 25g.

I have seen SN distillation discussed here but I do not recall anyone attempting it let alone succeeding. The method is simple in theory and worse comes to worse you have plenty of salt for the future?

They also sell 500g (for only £10 prime wtf) bags on there, worse comes to worse you get salt poisoning too or nothing happens I think.

Salt poisoning is not the most pleasant way to go but if you are ok with that, this is kind of a win/win unless you are unlucky enough to end up with a solution that lacks enough of either to kill you. This is uncharted territory. How willing are you to be a lab rat?

They sell up to 500g bags on there, that was just the first one I saw.

I probably wouldn't do it unless as a failsafe for some kind of hanging where sodium poisoning is irrelevant but that's just because I'm not a chemist, maybe if I researched it more I would be happy to do it just as.

Lots of 50g packets of them apparently seem to be in household stores. Looks promising, not sure if the PPH has it discussed. Does feel like there is a lot of setup involved in it. How large do most containers for them have to be before extraction? Is it possible without a coffee filter? Old thread I found discussing it on site.
