is potassium nitrate a viable alternative to sodium nitrite , i saw some older threads about it but they were unclear and if potassium nitrate is viable , would i be able to drink it or does it have to be via iv.

Could you please share more details. But, still confused about it. I.V, I.M or Oral there's mixed stuff everywhere.
According what I could gather the LD50(median lethal dose) is 3750mg/kg but it was tested on rat, there are certainly studies out there you can check, sodium nitrite seems far more established here however. It is really accessibly where I live, I might actually opt for it.
Edit: Obviously not drink it, inject
