That happened with me as well but it works perfectly fine for me now. I'm assuming it depends on your account how new it is. Just click on that person and start a conversation and ask them why they started a private conversation with you. It's really buggy.
i think its a bug, mine also shows blank. just use the conversation chat instead, its also private, only difference is you can add participants
