I have been thinking about my suicide, and this has made me think more about my past when I was a child, until adolescence. I'm getting homesick about my past. I feel like I didn't use this time well. does anyone else have this feeling of having wasted time, or didn't know how to enjoy this part of life?this has been tormenting me.

There's a famous quote, "Youth is wasted on the young."

It's actually debated who said it originally and what the exact phrasing was, but you get the point.

I agree with the quote. we don't know what we want in our youth and we don't even know how to enjoy the time. we do not listen to the advice of our elders, and our parents do not think outside the box, and do not allow us to think alone, to have independence. this is frustrating.

It makes me sad when I look at photos of my youth.

One of the last parts of the brain to develop is cognitive abilities for thinking about the future and not taking risks. It's not a waste of time, it's just that the cognitive abilities weren't yet in place. There are a lot of pressures put on us in Western society to know what we want and plan for it, like choosing a major and career path, when we don't yet know what life is about or how to live it.

If you want it, I hope this helps you to ease up on yourself. You didn't do anything wrong or to be ashamed of, and you couldn't know what you didn't yet know. Shame says one is not enough -- you were enough. You were exactly where you were supposed to be, growing and developing.
