Fucking hell that is barbaric. When I felt couldn't cope with looking at possibly being in a wheelchair permanently the only thing that truly comforted me was that if I did find it unbearable could still end it at my own hands. What hope does this poor bloke have? How is this helping! Letting go is sometimes the bravest thing you can do.

Do non-depressed people value life so much that they would want to live it even if they could only move their eyes?
If no, why do they subject this man to such a fate?
If yes, why can't they use their imagination to see that if he didn't want to live as a healthy man, that living like this must be sheer torture for him?
I know it's not so simple as to just end his life, but I'm sure there must be a way. Right? I guess I don't know, but I hope. I hope in a situation like this that a family would be allowed to take him home and let him die.

With a "friend" like this who needs an enemy? Good thing I don't have any friends Lol! But, seriously talking, it makes me so sad and revolted that people don't even have the right to end their lives and that many who try suicide end up like this. It's insane... Pro-lifers are definitely pro-suffering.

Good on the doctor and the "friend." Now they and the rest of his family can watch him collect dust and look at him like a trophy for the rest of his life. I guess having a glorified corpse for a friend is better then no friend, huh? I wanna ask, if the tables were turned would they want to live the rest of their lives as a vegetable? Because that's exactly what everyone that "saved" him deserves.

I came back to say maybe the doctors feel like they're saving him for the family.
I have seen some EMS forums where they talked about this and some of the attitudes were aggressively heroic, but a few were remorseful of having to save people after severe trauma that would ruin their lives.

Well I've told all my family and friends that I plan on taking my life when I am an old man. And none of them have told me that I shouldn't do that. I'm still young and have a ways to go.

I'm a care assistant by profession usually in care homes, I've occasionally looked after people like this you might be surprised how many of my colleagues became pro choice. I would never want to exist like that same with dementia if I could feel myself slipping away like that I'd CTB in an instant.

This is why you need to take suicide seriously and plan meticulously.
I'm not going to CTB unless I'm 95% certain I'll succeed. A botched suicide with long term consequences would be my biggest nightmare.
