i'm completely new here sorry if i'm a bit weird.

the only method i am currently considering is jumping off a 10-story apartment block and even though i'm pretty sure it would kill me, the possibility of it not working makes me paranoid. i want an instantaneous death; from what i've heard jumping down from high buildings is supposed to not hurt really, only a split second of pain.

my problem, however, is that there is soil under the window that i was planning to jump out of. can there be a possibility of the soil affecting how likely i am to die? also, i wanted to know if maybe there was a position i could go into to help make the attempt more effective (like a streamline shape or whatnot).

i'm really scared of somehow falling on my back or something (idk) and having to die in agony. please can someone help me figure out if this can be a reliable method or if i should look for something else. thank you

hope im following all of the rules

This is very risky. Rule of thumb is 150ft/46m onto concrete and 250ft/76m onto water for a 99% chance of death. 10 stories is only 100ft, well below the recommendation. Also the soil will somewhat cushion your fall. It is not ideal.

Then again, people can die from falling off a 4 foot ladder. Jumping has a lot of variables to it.

There is no single height at which a fall is guaranteed to be fatal; outcomes depend heavily on surface, body orientation, health, age, and luck. However, data and clinical guidelines provide useful thresholds:

  • Critical injury threshold: The American College of Surgeons defines >20 feet (about 6 meters) as a critical height for adults, often used as a field triage criterion for trauma centers.•
  • Common fatality range: Falls from 30 feet (~9 meters) and higher account for a large share of fatalities and frequently involve severe injuries to internal organs, chest, and ribs.
  • "Almost always fatal" zone: For an uncontrolled fall onto hard surfaces like asphalt, anecdotal reports suggest 80–100 feet (~24–30 meters) is nearly always fatal, though survivors above this height exist in rare cases.
  • Median lethal height: One analysis cites a median fatal height of about 49 feet (15 meters).
  • Extreme survival: Documented survivors exist from falls exceeding 300 feet when body position and impact surface were favorable.
Key factors:

  • Surface: Soft surfaces (e.g., deep snow) dramatically improve survival chances; hard surfaces (concrete, rock) increase risk.•
  • Orientation: Feet-first impacts are far more survivable than head-first.•
  • Individual variables: Age, health, and bone density significantly influence outcomes.
  • Low-height fatalities: A small percentage of fatal falls occur from under 6 feet, especially in vulnerable individuals.•
In summary, while >20 feet is a clinical red flag and >30 feet sees many fatalities, there is no absolute cutoff. Even very high falls can be survived under ideal conditions, and very short falls can be deadly.

this most likely wont work maybe unless you really hit the right spot especially considering the soil but im not tryna encourage suicide obviously lol

either way, if you're set on taking your life maybe rethink this method & find something thats a bit less risky

Imagine ending up paralyzed and unable to speak or express your feeling, kept alive for life in a medicalized bed, holy crap even if there's a 0.1% chance for it to happen I wouldn't try it.
