Every tv show or movie ends with the main character falling in love. Is my main problem, that I am unlovable? Is love like the only point to being alive? Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong.

Love is a human delusion, A scam pushed by the one who is in controlled of media or religion to keep people coping and the system running. Its about survival and power struggle in this predatory world.

If that's true then why do I keep hearing about it in music, seeing it in art and hearing about it from people. Maybe it's real and I'm just not good enough to have experienced it.

If anything its just a hormone. "Oxytocin, often referred to as the "love hormone," is a hormone produced in the hypothalamus that plays a key role in social bonding, reproduction, and childbirth. It is released during activities like hugging, touching, and sexual intimacy, promoting feelings of love and attachment."

So you think. Humanity in general is just tripping out on drugs? Aren't all emotions hormonal at the end of the day?

It's real but not everyone gets to experience it. Rarer still are those who get to keep it. It's not about not being good enough, but more about being at the right place at the right time, etc, etc, etc. And you have to believe you're worthy of it, otherwise it will be hard to attract, and harder still to keep.

Love gives a greater purpose, definitely, and one of the most strong motivators besides money. But you can even love pets as such humans should be even better

I have been in love with at least two romantic partners, it's questionable about the others.

The feeling dissipates. That's why there's so much music and art and life about love. It's comparable to heroin tbh.

Plenty of art and movies about being off your head on drugs too. But the party always ends

There'd probably be more about drugs as well, but most societies have stigmatised drugs. Where as romantic love? That represents a delusional completion of maturity. It's not real though.

Ask any couple who are honest people and have been together longer than 10 years.

To answer your question, which maybe was rhetorical, plenty of pieces of shit who are ugly and evil have fallen in love.

It's not something reserved for the worthy

So true. Lol makes me think of the movie Idiocracy.

But also, don't think its as simple as a single chemical. There are systems like cognitive/brain and nervous system also involved. Agreed with everyone overall that emotions such as love are ultimately part of us being the biological computers that we are, and agreed shit is generally temporary and passing. But there are reasons there is tons of research on love, and this single word has multiple meanings, areas, variations, etc... Idk, whole thing. Sorry, too many college classes...

And fuck it, just to clarify. I feel I've felt love before. Still have something there for family and clients - reasons I'm still here. But yeh, maybe like many people here, can't really feel much of it now. Honestly, maybe cuz I've "been there, done that", kinda feeling at peace with not caring/wanting it... At least now. Another reason I'm waiting/giving time. At least that way ppl couldn't say I didn't try...

The only point of life is to be happy. Everything else including love is just a means to that end.

Love for me is like a sacred inner flame. It's the point of everything, God, consciousness, etc.
and also the energy source for our nervous systems.

However that inner flame can become damaged and traumatised beyond recognition or redemption. It can be suffocated, burnt out, not enough fuel, and so on.

Anyway, I think this thread is better off in Recovery.

To be fair, "the main character falls in love at the end and lived happily ever after" is a trope as old as time. Plenty of stories don't end in a marriage or in a happy relationship, but I agree that it's annoyingly common in pop media.

Pretty sure love is just something our body tells us to want for the purposes of reproduction and herd mentality. Those were great evolutionary mechanisms back when we were hitting rocks to make fire, but out of date in the modern hyper-competitive, intimacy-averse society we have now.
