So I've recently been on an internship application grind and felt really disheartened to log onto my email and see 3 back to back rejections from various companies. It just really sucks. I know has to be my resume, not that it's bad or anything, just hugely lacking. By that, I mean I spent 2 years in Community College doing mainly gen-ed classes and only 3 CS classes which taught me maybe 2 languages and the basics of programming. So far, I'm nearing 25 applications and of course, the fall rounds are wrapping up so around January 2025 might be my last chance at obtaining an internship. I know it's not the end of the world if I don't get one, and I'm not even that upset about it. Just felt kinda down after seeing all the rejections. So far, my numbers look like this: 23 applications, heard back from 9 with all rejections, haven't heard back from the other 14 yet, some are still accepting applications, some have closed, no clue if it's silent rejection. Of course, 0 interviews so far. I guess I can be somewhat grateful because I am 100% not ready for an interview. Additionally, it's not over yet, my University will have a few career fairs in the Spring, and I plan to go and network, hand out my resume, etc.

I just wanted to post a little, feeling disheartened and might pause applications for a little, give myself some breathing room as I was previously shooting out at least 1 a day on weekdays, usually 2-3.

I'm sorry, I'm in the exactly the same position (formerly jar-baby btw). Trying to apply for internships, have a resume that's sorely lacking, etc. I guess I just try to remember, as you say, that it's far from over—there's time to improve, and a lot of folks in the field have moved past rejections to go on and have successful careers. Just wish I was more motivated to work on my portfolio/resume.

Ahhhh, I noticed your name around the forums, didn't know you were jar-baby! I was wondering why I followed you lol. Anyways, it's such a shitty position to be in. I know an internship isn't required or anything (with the exception of some colleges, which make it a requirement to graduate), but I know I'm at a sort of disadvantage without one after college.

Im trying to keep myself calm but the white collar and tech industry in general taking a hit is very worrying to me. Sometimes I wish people chose a different major but I know every last one of them has their downsides, at least tech is paid well and has a generally good WLB for its downsides.
