I have a nightmare, wake up in a panic, and once I properly come around, I've forgotten what I was panicking about. As the day goes on my mood improves. I'm so tired of this cycle

Mine are a different one every time but I am noticing patterns. They all have a theme about being trapped in some way, and the symbolism is getting more and more literal, like my brain is not even bothering trying to disguise my fears that it's trying to work through. How about yours? I haven't tried writing them down, it doesn't help I forget them so quickly and when I first wake up the panic just stops me functioning for a while

they vary slightly , but usually they involve me home alone and i hear someone try to break in....i think i have all the doors locked and then remember one random window is open (burglar realises at the same time) and then panic as we both race to it ... i always wake up then.

For me, limiting the fear generating content in the hours before bed helped, combined with sleeping at a slightly cool temperature.

Some bad dreams feature themes of annoying family members, and missing buses, etc.

Understandable. If you wish, you could maybe read the book earlier, and read smth milder before bed; I sometimes listen to music to ease my mind into sleep, so using a book to calm one's mind can be similar.

That switch / button would be cool, I also can take a long while to fall asleep.

Ikr 😂 same. My gf literally falls asleep in 30 seconds. So jealous. It's so bad for me I have cycles of getting into bed, not being able to sleep so getting up, staying up for a while and repeat. I can do that for 3-4 hours and still not sleep, and end up missing a whole night sleep just staying up doom scrolling in a sleepy haze
