how do you cope when you're completely alone? like no one around you physically, no one to even talk to, online or not...

it's one of the most painful things for us, we're entirely alone in life and we can't do anything to change it. i really don't know how i can feel better at all, other than just cry and hurt all day until the next time im not alone...

I probably don't feel overwhelming loneliness right now because I'm taking pills.

Loneliness is horrible and can be painful for some people. I find making taking up a hobby so that is keeps the mind active helpful. Sometimes even just going for a walk to get some fresh air can help. If you don't have anyone then I find trying to embrace it rather then trying fight it seems to be the way to deal with it.

I hope you find a way to rid the pain and find peace.

One of the main ways that we cope with problems is by interacting with others and maintaining relationships. I think that loneliness is one of the only things humans cannot cope with long term. The only thing that helps me is reading and posting on the internet.

that's how it always goes for us, too....

i'm here if you'd ever like to talk as well ^-^

i agree, i really think it's something we can't cope with...it's just human nature to not be alone, we can't handle otherwise.

just sort of sad because that's not something i can really change in my life so it's really hard to accept i'm just going to have to let that hurt me forever..

thank you for the reply.

I deal with it with marijuana and alcohol because the entire world hates lonely people for some reason.

Might I ask why that is?
it's a bit complicated, but i could try to explain it..

my living situation has me very isolated, and it's been that way for years. that's finally changing very soon, but now i'll be living alone, in an area i'm not familiar with, so i can't see myself being any less isolated anytime soon..

on top of that, i have a lot of health issues that make it hard for me to get out and be social at all, and my traumas and dissociative disorder have made it near impossible to maintain relationships. im working on that in therapy, but it's going to take a long time to work through all of that..

the only real constant in my life to prevent complete and total isolation has been my sister, who i am very thankful for, but i rarely get to see her, she can only come visit for a little bit once every one or two weeks...so the time in-between is always crushing..i dont have anyone else.

I have struggled with isolation and loneliness for a long time, it's mostly because of me, because I admittedly don't take much initiative to socialize for sooooo many different reasons. Besides it being a mental obstacle, it is also due to current circumstances. I do not have many opportunities to socialize with peers at the moment as I cannot leave the building for now. I do love my little sister dearly and talk with her daily.

On the internet I am a lot more open though :) I have tried making online friends on different platforms, I did not have a lot of luck due to the lack of interested people.

seconding this, i had a whole other reply in mind but honestly this is how i really cope, to be perfectly real. if you don't do weed at the same time (dangerous, & not fun) & can afford the expensive drinks, maybe you could make friends at a bar, but that's not my style

Humans were made to be in tribes and small communities. Not anonymous and chronically online amongst seas of other anonymous people. Not interconnected like we all are, how we are today.

So I suppose that, if nothing else, the mere fact that the world is highly dysfunctional in its current configuration gives me the slightest modicum of comfort. Just to know it's not entirely our fault.

I relate to this a lot. Even if it is technically possible to go out and meet people, practically and realistically I will remain isolated. It's hard. It's nice that your sister visits you, though. Is she nice?

Like others said maybe picking up a hobby can help fill some of the void

Good luck i hope you can find friends there and make some nice memories and even if you don't i think the virtual word has a lot of nice people and things to offer i know it isn't a complete replacement from irl friends and experiences but it can alleviate some of the pain

that sounds rough i hope therapy can help you deal with your problems and you can recover from your health issues
