Get up and move around. Do something like make a drink or something to eat. Go for a walk or put on some music and dance. Do housework. Anything active that makes you think about something unimportant other than what's going round your head.
Do not sit on your backside and look at the internet. It's not enough to distract the bit of your brain that's on the hamster wheel.

I know how you feel - I'm currently on a 28 day section on psych ward and I have way too much time to think. Sometimes it's kinda nice to wallow in your own thoughts but you don't want to get to the point where it's completely consuming you. I've started doing colouring books and although I'm still feeling sad I feel a bit better as I'm having to concentrate on something else too. Putting on loud music also helps or writing down how you feel. It won't make the sadness go away but it will give your mind something else to think about
