At some point I'll post the whole story, but for right now I got to the point I am willing to give life one more try. The why is complicated and long, but just then some friends who promised to help me and convinced me to make a lot of big (and arguably) bad decisions have pretty outright manipulated and betrayed me. I don't have a lot of close friends, and I knew these ones were . . . questionable, but I hoped I actually could trust them. They made and broke alot of promises, and now are using my mental health against me and hampering my recovery.

Here's the fun part. The main friend who is responsible for this is a certified therapist.

You might be able to say the same thing about therapists that they say about doctors, "50% of them graduated in the lower half of their class". Sadly education does not also mean having good character. One positive thing about bad experiences is that you can earn how to spot the untrustworthy more accurately.

Some people who get into seemingly benevolent professions do it for the wrong reasons. Status/reputation and money come to mind.

oh, this is absolutely vile. i'm sorry this happened to you.

and the friend with the most responsibility being a therapist? ffs, that's appalling. relating to the reply above: i see a lot of posts online about former school bullies going into fields where they have power over others (nursing or police). does that at least loosely apply here?

Thanks everyone.

It's a big, complicated situation, but yes, the person went into the profession for not the best of reasons. I knew there were a lot of red flags, but I wasn't in a great place when I accepted their "help" and I was honestly barely functional. Now that my mind is working somewhat more clearly I see how bad my mistake was in trusting them. Once a couple of things are dealt with I'm breaking all contact with them and moving on. Just sucks hardcore for a number of reasons, Not the least of which is I was just starting to do really well when they pulled some really terrible stunts.
