I think this, more than anything else, shows how bad paralysis is. These are people who saw and felt their body being cut open. And they thought the worst part of it all was that they couldn't move.

This makes me really scared to jump. These people only had to deal with paralysis for a few hours, and they abhorred it. Imagine dealing with paralysis for life.

Anyway, I always question if any quad who's glad to be alive is seriously thinking rationally. They probably just figure that since they're stuck being alive, they might as well pretend life is less awful than it really is.

Arguably, these people awake during surgery are the best people to judge how bad being a quad is. They've actually experienced being a quad. And since their time as a quad was rather temporary, they have no need to sugarcoat it.

I've had a few operations in my time and this was always my huge fear, luckily I stayed asleep through it all.
