Do you guys believe in an afterlife?

My overwhelming fear of death, and my constant suicidal thoughts are always clashing with one another. Recently I've delved in subreddits that talk about the idea of an after life, even though they are definitely anti-suicide. I guess im just looking for people who may be in the same kind of mindset i am, and see your views. :)

i don't believe in an afterwhile at all. i believe all of my emotions and cognitive abilities are circuits my brain, and that they will stop working when my body ceases to live. my pain too would then disappear, that is why i believe that commiting suicide is the only end to my suffering

brain cell connect into to patterns

it's these patterns of the connections that create a model of a self , a model of the world, and model of consciousness

there is no self only brain cells and their connections which create a simulation like a computer creates a first person shooter vr game

After reading thousands of NDE's on the internet in the past 10 years I strongly believe in an afterlife. Until few years ago I used to believe that suicides were going to hell thanks to my religion, but not any more. No loving God would send his tormented children (us humans) to an ever greater and eternal suffering. That's just too cruel, and I refuse to believe that the universe is so cruel.

I think that the chances that some consciousness will be able to function with my memories after my physical brain dies are miserably low (smaller than dying from meteorite). If some future consciousness can't operate on my memories, then it's simply not me (even if that consciousness is produced by my own brain). My personality may cease to exist before death in two ways: as a result of some event that causes complete amnesia or as a result of losing consciousness without regaining it afterwards. I hope, it will be the last variant.

This concept has been the factor that's held me back from 'doing the worst' during the worst times. I've hoped there would be nothing - just an end to misery. Even as an atheist (religion freaks me da f*ck out).... [inserts The Omen theme tune! ]. I still get a feeling there's more to this universe than we, as humans, could ever begin to comprehend. The probability of our existence just seems too coincidental to be purely random: it's almost though we have been placed here somehow, for some reason.

Whether there's "spooky action at a distance" or a universal quantum consciousness, or if we're maybe part of a computer simulation, or the creation of a divine God: nobody truly knows.

I just fear that escaping the system by one's own choice could result in serious consequences later on (as crazy as this may sound!?). Maybe I'm bordering on psychotic or this is just my survival instinct kicking in - or maybe I just haven't been desperate enough to CTB yet?

No, I believe death to be non-existence which is all I wish and hope for, I just want to never suffer in this torturous, dreadful existence I always saw as the most terrible mistake ever again, for me non-existence is just all that's positive, I just wish to be permanently unconscious with no more pain and no more suffering, I just want all to be gone and forgotten for me and I'll just always prefer to not exist than suffer in this existence, to me existence will always be an abomination.

I understand how appealing the idea is, especially for us here considering the suffering we went through, it's only natural to wish for some compensation, but I don't think there is any legitimate evidence for afterlife.

I believe it's 50/50. But I'm ok with accepting both outcomes. But if I would end up in another life that is similar or identical to this one, lets just say I wouldn't like it.

I hope not. I hope once I hanged myself and got unconscious everything ends forever. I hated it here on earth I hate every aspect of the human existence. I never enjoyed it instead I tortured myself 26 years long.

Currently I'm torn. Yes, that would seem too cruel. But things happen to innocent people in this world that are extraordinary cruel. Why that? It doesn't make sense to me. I've made mistakes and can accept my suffering, but why the innocent?

Death is just a reversion back to the state of not existing, just like the billions of years before we were born.

Our personality and character, who we truly are depends on our brain. We can observe total change of character in people with brain injuries or people who age. So even if we have a soul, that soul isn't who we are. If it exists, the soul is like a mechanical part that gives us life. Like electricity giving life to a computer. So, I don't believe in any kind of afterlife as described in religions.

As far as I know, the Big Crunch theory isn't possible according to the latest data but still our universe loves its cycles. What if we are inside a cycle like Big Crunch? What if we are living the exact same life again and again? I am afraid of reliving my life. I'm not doing better than before but at least I'm tougher now. And if I'm going to live again, I'm also afraid of repeating my life without having a single truly valuable moment to relive.
