"You can keep your despair." You said to my face.

"It was a stupid mistake." About our daughter?

"They're more important." Are what your actions screamed at me.

But I'm the terrible one.

I agree. I'm aweful and I keep being aweful. I'm barely holding it together. The masks I put on keep cracking. Guess it's been a while since I had to pretend I wasnt sad all the time. I keep wearing them though. Not that it's fooling anyone.

I was so great in the desert but I guess the shiniest piece of garbage in the dump is still garbage everywhere else. Now that I'm back it's like I'm swimming in tar. Every stroke gets heavier and I move less. I'm sinking and if I cant get everyone trying to drag me out to let go they're going to drown too.

Get over it. Is what they say. It's what everyone says. You're only use now is your ability to aquire funds. Here's the monetary value of the dreams you shared with this woman stretched out over 18 years. Due every two weeks or we'll just take it from you. Get over it. Welcome to the one thing you always fought against. The thing she spent 4 years convincing you to do that only took 6 months to suddenly change. Get over it. All the work. The effort. The compromise. Doesn't matter. These strangers are better.

Get over it.

I guess when I do take this stuff I know what I should write to you and the kids. I should have done it right the first time. Then we wouldn't be where we are today and there'd be nothing to get over. You wouldn't know me and these innocent souls would have a dad who's not a monster. Oh well.

Get over it?

'Get over it' is such a dismissive phrase.

I can feel the hurt in your writing.

There is a huge hole between us and them.
"Get over it" is never applicable and it does not work.
What if you simply cannot accept that.
It sometimes takes much time to make the time heal you.
But "Get over it" is definitely something that cannot be done quickly.
I am sorry, you are still hearing this advice and are in a hard situation.
Don't listen to them. "Get over it" is an excuse why they can't help you

"Get over it"? It still baffles me how some people can be so dismissive of others' hurt and pain. Anyone who can look at someone who's hurting, and can find it within themselves to say that to them, is someone who needs to reevaluate themselves and how they look at others, instead of lording over them and acting holier than thou.

So many people don't take the time to understand the situations others go through and brush them off as if it's no big deal. They just expect others to immediately be able to brush everything off and feel better, and then get upset when someone can't do that. It's not fair, it's dismissive, it's hurtful, and it's so damn defeating.

If someone tells you that, they weren't worth listening to in the first place.
