The truth is sad and depressing: most people do not genuinely care about the lives of their own children, whom they bring into a fundamentally unjust world without much thought. Therefore, they also do not care about the lives of other human beings; and they care even less about the lives of other animals, etc.
Paradoxically, this same majority places extreme importance on a nonexistent and imaginary being, just because they believe that 'He' will benefit them if they beg Him enough... It is simply preposterous.
