You live in a house or an apartment? If you live in a house I would think there would be a greater distance between your and their house. Not like an apartment with thin walls. You may just be paranoid, I really don't think they will hear the involuntary noises (assuming you make the same noises I have heard victims make in hanging videos) I would be afraid that the cloth would drop out of your mouth. Just use strong duct tape.
