Trust me when I say I never thought I'd get to this point. However, the urge to cut has been very distracting lately for me and I think unfortunately it just can't be avoided at this point.

Now, I know cutting ideally should be done with a small, thinner blade. Combat knives are probably the worst because it's so easy to cut deeper than intended. However, it's all I've got, so I guess the question is how can I make this as safe and easy as possible with what I've got? Is there any method for working with bigger knives or should I just pray I don't fuck up?

General rules of cutting:
-Use a SHARP blade. It should easily cut through a piece of paper.
-Use a CLEAN blade. Soap and water is great but wiping it down with rubbing alcohol is better.
-Aftercare, aftercare, aftercare! Always make sure you have first aid supplies ready. This includes clean bandages. Wash your cuts with mild soap and warm water and cover them with clean bandages.

I use a pocket knife which is not that big but way thicker than a razor. I always sharpen and clean it right before cutting. I only ever use the very tip (NEVER the full blade) to cut with VERY LIGHT PRESSURE, slowly increasing until I get what I want. I know cutting comes from a place of emotion but there is value in being very calm and methodical about it.

Also, here is a resource thread on some first aid advice and some alternatives to dangerous self harm if you want to kick the habit:

Are you okay? Combat knives are dangerous when it comes to this kind of stuff. Are your arteries still in one piece?

I managed to come out in one piece. Definitely wouldn't do it again but in the moment I felt I had to.
