After getting my open heart surgery approved, Cigna will ONLY cover the surgery but ZERO costs associated with the recovery phase of my care. They would do the surgery in Bogota, Colombia at a cost of only about $12,000USD. As opposed to me getting it done in the USA where the minimum cost would be $64,000USD. I have been going around and around with them since January to try to get them to cover the recovery phase as well as the surgery. Here is the last email I sent them:

"OK, you win. I give up."

My plan now is just to maintain my heart condition with medication until I die of a heart attack or I choose to CTB (which, in all honesty I would like to do in early August of this year.)

I just CAN NOT keep arguing with them.

It's insane what has happened to health insurance. An absolutely outrageous crime in plain sight, ruining people's lives.

God I'm so sorry. The healthcare in this country is genuinely insane. I used to work at a medical clinic, and I've never been so appalled in my life. The fact that you've been arguing with them for months over something as serious as open heart surgery blows my fucking mind. Unreal.

How any insurance can get away with this, I have no idea. How can rehabilitation from such a major surgery not be considered a part of, and covered, towards total healing? This world is doomed. It deserves to be.

Hey i had Cigna not that that helps. Your policy should dictate what is covered. Do you have insurance in the US and outside the US? I know I fractured my foot like a year before getting on it. They said they wouldn't cover costs related. Per my policy when I had it the Silver plan the lowest one has them covering rehab like physical therapy of 2,500$. Looks like surgical fees should be fully paid. Sounds like you may need a lawyer honestly. If I can help in some way let me know.
