Yes, according to experts, if the brain does not receive enough oxygen, it can cause damage to certain areas.

Cerebral Hypoxia:
Cerebral hypoxia
happens when your brain doesn't get enough oxygen. Symptoms include confusion, difficulty speaking and seizures. It's a medical emergency that can be fatal and can cause lifelong brain damage. Healthcare providers can treat some of the issues that cerebral hypoxia causes but they can't reverse the brain damage that it can cause.

Being found while still alive, I guess. It takes a while to die after you're unconscious.

You mean if I hang myself and I'm too heavy for the rope it will break and I will fall? If so what's more catastrophic the fall or the damage done by the rope that you just survived?

once ur brain stops getting oxygen, brain cells start to die and its irreversible, so if your in way too deep but the rope breaks, u would be left on the ground in a vegetable state
fall damage is another factor, and also hitting things during ur convulsions, but as long as you die in the end damage done by convulsions doesnt matter

so make sure u have a good anchor and strong rope

Damage done by rope.

It all depends on how long you were up there before the rope breaks.

If it's less than 3 minutes, neurologically you be ok.

After 3 minutes brain cells begin to die. After 20 minutes, there is no possibility of being saved.

There was a story posted here about a guy hung himself from a tree branch. The problem was after several minutes of hanging, a police officer just happened to be driving by, saw him, and cut him down. He ended up basically a vegetable, requiring 24 hour care as he couldn't do anything for himself. The family kept him alive for 2 years, when he eventually died on his own. Extremely cruel family if you ask me.

There are other risks as well. Your hyoid could break, as it's not attached to your skeleton. You'd most likely have a big purple ring around your neck, which, if you are around other people would be difficult to explain. There's also a possibility that you end up with red spots all over your face. Capillaries are extremely sensitive. Also hard to explain to others.

Bottom line is it all depends on when the rope breaks or someone finds you and saves you.
