Can extension chord/hdmi chord be used for hanging?

Knots do not seem to tighten properly like pic below. Can it still be used?

If they are strong enough they will do the job.
A hardware store should sell sash cord. It is fairly cheap and about the same thickness as the other cords. Stronger and longer too.
