I hope you'll place it in your suitcase and not the luggage you'll take on the plane with you, first of all. That'll make you look a lot less suspiscious, but I'm sure you likely already thought of that.

As funny as it will sound, I couldn't come up with a better excuse than ''I'm a BDSM fan'' or something. Although that definitely is a hit or miss in chances depending on the mood of the TSA agent that day and takes guts to drop just like that in the middle of TSA. Rope usually is for emergencies, climbing, and crafting. All three of those options are open answers they will ask you more about, but maybe you can alternatively work something out with those.

Where are you going? Rope can be bought pretty much anywhere in the world... It's a very basic item. Shops for hardware, camping/outdoor activity, probably even sports stores or some general/department stores... I would maybe consider if it's possible to buy rope wherever you're flying to instead of taking it on a plane with you.

right, but there won't really be many hardware stores, it's like a beachy area, and it can't just be any rope

Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Shibari. It's become quite popular even outside traditional BDSM contexts.

My first thought was crafts, maybe some sort of work project.

...though the BDSM excuse might skip additional questioning
