Booking a hotel

Hi there, I was wondering if you need a credit card to check in to a hotel, I managed to ask my family member to book a hotel room with her cc but I personally don't have a cc. I live in Germany btw.

Most i have been to require a credit card to check in. Maybe call the hotel to ask ?
