Yeah, it's like we have two different brains. I think we like to think the thinking part of our brain is all powerful but I don't think it is. The primal side to our brains- controling breathing, heart beat, survival instinct just won't give up.

Always found it interesting- even under anaesthetic- that while you are given help to breath, your heart still keeps working. Must be an even more untouchable layer of the brain that controls that.
