just out of curiosity, I've read about how people in prison or inpatient hospitals ctb via bed sheet. I have no idea how that would work? like how does a bed sheet support someone's weight? can someone explain

Bedsheet is quite strong when twisted in the shape of a rope . people who use bedsheet mostly die by partial suspension

I always assumed they used it for hanging, ie a make shift rope, either cut down and twisted to size. I am not au fair with anything to do with hanging, but from what have seen in films/tv shows where hanging taken place in Prison.

You twist it into a rope and then make a noose if you can, and let your body weight/gravity do the rest on your neck.
