like seriously get fucking bent

that quote may look cute and motivational on paper but are we seriously going to act like there haven't people who tried to make some sort of change to the bullshit that goes on in this world and they either got ridiculed, sidelined, blackballed, or actually KILLED for it.

and usually the people who come up with cringe quotes like this are the ones getting exposed for being INVOLVED with shit like corruption, infidelity, or bigotry when someone cares enough to deep dive into their personal life. Ghandi for example was DEFINITELY NOT A SAINT.

just hypocritical virtue signaling all around ugh

I agree on a smaller level- in that achieving/ getting things in life requires effort- lots of it. That's not to say that the efforts we put in are always rewarded or, that the path itself is easy.

I guess I'm always curious though. So many threads are made about people feeling lonely for instance. I do tend to wonder- are those members even trying to meet others? I can totally understand why that can be so difficult. Plus, it's no guarantee we will find others who connect with us. But, if there's anything we still want in life, what are we doing to try and get it? I think that's a reasonable question to put to ourselves.

Of course, it could be that the prospect of being around others is even more terrifying. I think a person can be socially anxious and also lonely. But then- that becomes something to work on if being lonely is so abhorrent. I figured out that it wasn't for me. That my social anxiety was far worse than feeling lonely- so hence, I am alone. But, know I can't realistically complain about it because, I've done it to myself and, continue to make that choice.

But yeah- I'm sure bigger change is harder. I admire those who fight for a cause but I suppose I don't feel strongly enough about much to do the same. Some things I suppose just feel too big to change too. While I don't actually think it is a waste of time to protest, I still don't feel strongly enough to join in. Plus yeah- people do get injured if things turn sour.

I feel like we all take good people for granted and shun them into nihilism, I also think that's why a lot of good people tend to die early from varying causes, they actually *are* too good for this fucked world.

But this isn't an excuse to not value community or just radically be an asshole, just an observation of mine/sad truth.

Most pithy "motivational" sentences like that are raw sewage when you apply ten seconds of thinking to them.

Steve Jobs said "love what you do", apparently completely ignorant of the fact that the modern world turns on the labour of garbage collectors, street repairers, cable layers, and people who do crappy jobs without complaint.

"Believe you can and you're halfway there." — Theodore Roosevelt. Well, no actually, I'm not. I've sat on my behind and pretended to myself I can do it, but I haven't budged an inch, Theo.

"Everything you've ever wanted is on the other side of fear." — George Addair. Actually George, it's not fear that's stopping me from being a multimillionaire with an army of robots to clean my mansion up for me. It's fear that's stopping me from learning to swim, sure, but that's not really something I spend much time longing for.

"You're remembered for the rules you break" - Stockton Rush... well this one's pretty fun, under the circumstances.

ah yes, because "change" is something that we can all do just like that. if it was that easy, we'd all be saints. society would be perfect. people who spout faux motivational shit like that are people who had opportunities given to them on a silver platter, and the only change they try to make is for their own benefit, ridiculing those who try to do it for a selfless cause. they'll never understand what it means to fight or struggle for anything

glad you mentioned this. I definitely remember reading that when Ghandi's wife fell ill to pneumonia I think it was, he basically let her die ……but when he fell ill, he QUICKLY got the best doctors to care for him. Not saying Ghandi was the only one, but the hypocrisy overall is astounding.
