Hi,

So SN isn't my preferred method of choice i have to admit but a back up.

I just have a few questions -
From the known BO Germany / Poland company. Plastic container. Do I keep it in there or move it to a glass airtight container?

Are people testing their SN? Can't find purity on the label - but company will be known to many, maybe someone could advise? I can buy aquarium test strips but currently can't work out particularly how to use them. Don't mind blood so can test blood.

Think I have all I need just unsure about if most people test it and how? Also OK to stay in plastic container (with blue sort of zip tie) or move to something more solid?

Also, does it have to be mixed with distilled water - that stuff looks chemical - I can research this more.

As said, it's a back up plan if I cant make another attempt work but think I need to start looking at the back up plan now too.

I've read the guides and understand the protocol but unsure about the testing of the SN. The posts of seen regarding the testing strips looked quite complicated.

Whats the overall consensus?

Thanks for any guidance.

If testing strips seem complex or inaccessible, a blood test just involves a small amount of blood and a few grains of the powder, if its high purity you'll notice the blood discoloration almost immediately

Thanks for your response. I ordered some testing strips last night incase (but doubt I'll know what to do with them). Happy to find a way to test my blood - thank you for the helpful infomation!

I would definitely use distilled water as the SN may react with the chlorine inside the water. Chlorine is used to kill microbes inside the tap water and it reacts with the SN, degrading it's purity. Luckily, distilled water is very easy to purchase in every chemical shop and you don't need any permit to buy it. And its dirt cheap.

I left it in its original plastic container is this ok??

I don't see the need to test.

If the original plastic container was airtight and didn't let moisture in, then your SN should be good.

Are you kidding? Typical concentrations of chlorine in tap water are 0.2 - 1 mg/l. If you dissolve 1g of sodium nitrite in 1 liter of such water, the molar ratio of Cl₂ to NaNO₂ would be approximately 1:1000 - 1:5000, or 1 chlorine atom per 500 - 2500 molecules of sodium nitrite. What a huge loss could be expected with such little proportions of Cl atoms in the mixture? ))
