They didn't help me. They just gave me meds as if it was candy.
Actually this whole psychological industry never really helped me but instead made things much worse.

I did a voluntary 3 day once cuz I felt suicidal. It was stupid. An extremely smelly and obnoxious man made me want to live. I thought I can't be worse at living than THAT

The only thing it is good at is keeping you from ctb-ing, aside from that I had spent my time there sleeping and eating. It was a jail with good amenities.

Most psych wards in the US don't. You would have to check. I hate to discourage because you seem like you want to get better but they're just jails most of the time. I would rather die than go in one. It's a fear of mine. They'll just put you on meds that fuck you up. I'm already on meds that have fucked me up. I don't need anymore. No thanks. The US mental healthcare system is pathetic. The only place doing it right is the Soteria House in Vermont where medication is optional, you get your phone, and you get to stay in a supportive home environment.

I don't know how it is in the US but generally if you admit yourself willingly they are more lenient, at least in Europe. When I admitted myself willingly I was allowed to keep my phone and had more freedom like a later curfew as well as being able to walk around the outside premises by myself. Id say being in the psych ward will always be a terrible experience but overall the time I went willingly vs brought forcefully was way better and in the end it did help me. Also here if you admit yourself you can leave whenever you want, they'll try to dissuade you but you can leave after 2 days if you want.
Id say definitely check all the info about the place you want to go too before admitting yourself.

Agree with this 100%. They make everything worse. They are like soldiers from the 1984 book, thought police. Disgusting people, they ruin lives. But then again some people love it, I've just been horribly unlucky. If you can get therapy and what not outside an institution you may be better off.

I did once (in NY). It felt inhumane the treatment. I would never do it again. Absolutely not

Yeah same. I actually felt less of a human being after I left. I was forced to take meds against my will. I hope those people all die a violent death

If I ever go to a psych ward ever again I swear that will be my final straw for cutting the cord on myself.

I went to a fancy treatment center for 3 weeks. I was even allowed to bring my dog as an ESA. They gave me meds I didn't need because the psychiatry is a joke, and my counselor was awful. Pretty sure they just charged me and my insurance as much as possible.
We couldn't have our phone but they had phone time so I could talk to my therapist (who helped me get there), family, and friends regularly.
This being said, the people I met there and some of the support people were amazing. There were definitely benefits and it helped for a while. Honestly, if I was in a position to do it again I would. If you do your research and find the right place, it could help.

I checked myself in 15 years ago. One of the idiot staff members put something in my room that allowed me to attempt. I wish it would've worked.
