"The Castle", "The Trial", "Metamorphosis", I love and relate to all of Kafka's work. His stories frequently show extreme helplessness while the characters have a nightmareish inability to progress towards their goal.

The best way I can describe his work is the attempt to ward off an evil and inaccessible spirit.

Anyone here read Kafka? I highly recommend

I read the story where a man wakes up to find he's turned into a cockroach. It was quite clever. My imagination must be fairly limited, because I tend to prefer literature that is closer to real life.

It's been many year since I read Kafka, but I really like his works. I think he shows how absurd this world and all our suffering are.

I like his works but they are just so stressful to read for longer periods. Like a really long and elaborate nightmare.
The old film adaptation of The Trial is great though.

Isn't it a bit funny that his first name is "Franz"? I mean that name has such a silly ring to it. And then "Kafka" which sounds heavy, like a hundred ships sinking to the bottom of the ocean.

I loved "The Castle", but I was never able to finish "The Trial" or "The Metamorphosis". They depressed me beyond words... I think the only other writer who felt like such a burden to carry was Gogol. There... another silly name :-) Go-go-l :-)

The Metamorphosis is my favorite book. As someone who has struggled with feeling like an outcast, it had such a huge impact on me.
